Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika has collected Rs 91.70 crore in five weeks at the box office while Uri The Surgical Strike broke yet another record – this one was held by Baahubali 2. Read details here.
Kangana Ranaut is clearly on fire with her latest release, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi – the film has collected Rs 7.15 crore in the third week of its release and made a total of Rs 91.70 crore at the domestic ticket windows, heading towards the Rs 100 crore club. However, the film made at an estimated budget of Rs 125 crore still has its work cut out.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter, “#Manikarnika picked up speed on [third] Sat and Sun… Steady trending… [Week 3] Fri 1.25 cr, Sat 2.65 cr, Sun 3.25 cr. Total: ₹ 91.70 cr. India biz. #Manikarnika biz at a glance… Week 1: ₹ 61.15 cr Week 2: ₹ 23.40 cr Weekend 3: ₹ 7.15 cr Total: ₹ 91.70 cr India biz.”
After making an opening collection of Rs 8 crore, the film saw a major jump on its first weekend and collected Rs 42.55 crore in three days.
NManikarnika has received mixed responses from critics but the audiences have showered love on the latest Kangana film that also marks her directorial debut. Raja Sen wrote in his review for Hindustan Times, “Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi sets up a world where the woman wages war, while the men dance and matchmake. Ranaut is gleeful as she shows the men how its done, fencing expertly while running across the backs of horses and onto that of an elephant. These are cartoonish stunts, but nothing outside the Hindi film playbook, and if they feel harder to swallow, we should ask ourselves if that is because they’re performed by a woman and not some guy named Akshay or Ajay.”
Meanwhile, Uri The Surgical Strike continued its success run as it smashed “fifth weekend collection” record held by Baahubali 2. Adarsh tweeted, “#UriTheSurgicalStrike creates HISTORY yet again… Smashes *Weekend 5* record held by #Baahubali2 [#Hindi]… Day 29: #Baahubali2 ₹ 1.56 cr… #Uri ₹ 2.12 cr Day 30: #Baahubali2 ₹ 2.25 cr… #Uri ₹ 4.67 cr Day 31: #Baahubali2 ₹ 3.16 cr… #Uri ₹ 5.58 cr”. The war drama directed by Aditya Dhar stars Yami Gautam and Vicky Kaushal in lead roles.
The film, based on 2016 surgical strikes, is on a record breaking spree – it is Vicky Kaushal’s first solo Rs 100 crore film, his second highest grosser, Yami Gautam’s highest grosser ever and was 2019’s first Bollywood release, which also became the first blockbuster.
